I have to make this quick since I'm getting ready to go out for a friend's birthday. I left Barcamp about an hour ago because of overlapping plans. The sessions were cool. I wanted to blog during the sessions to get more down, but I didn't have wireless connectivity in the "Kitchen" demo room.
Anyway, there was one about distributed identity and authentication. Alex (I think was his name) had an idea for something he thinks will be simpler and easier to adopt than OpenID. He hasn't put the information up yet but promises an implementation and RFC soon at pass.net. I thought he had some valid points about the complexity of OpenID.
I met Bob Aman later and after talking about it with him I think I need to revisit OpenID and look more closely. It was cool to meet Bob after having a little bit of interaction only over the web.
I had the chance to meet Chris Messina of Flock. We talked for a little bit about Flock and their direction. I'm looking forward to their next release!
Luke Crawford showed everyone what he's been working on with Joyent and I must say it looked pretty good. He did a great job of showing how three devs working with Rails can challenege someone with much more funding (*ahem*... Zimbra) and still put out a quality product. At the very least I can say that I think the idea of the Micrsoft Back Office in the small to medium sized business will soon be going the way of the bell-bottoms.
There's more but I don't have the time at the moment to get down all my thoughts. I'll be headed back tomorrow. Matt Pelletier of nyc.rb fame will be representing by building a web application on demand during the session (all in Rails, of course). It should be a fun session.
Update: Photos can be found here on Flickr. Here's a picture of me talking to Chris. I'm the guy on the right in case you weren't sure. Like the hair? Being a student rocks!
