Rails uses the base64 encoding technique for database-backed sessions, which is actually where I got the idea originally. So I don't think that would be a cause for the "marshal data too short" problem in those cases.

One thing I didn't look at was how much the base64 encode inflated the size of the string. Would be interesting to measure.

Hi, I've been using a programme, Weft QDA, to code qualitative data. After my laptop lost power (no battery and plug came out of socket), I now get the message 'marshal data too short'.

I tried searching the internet for a solution and came across this entry. I just wondered if you knew of a way to fix the file so it will open again.
